How to do things when you don’t feel motivated

Today I’m exhausted. All I want to do is order chocolate cake on Door Dash, stream a random episode of the Office and blow off writing this email, even though it is clearly in my calendar to do right now.

My brain is telling me:

“Whatever, it’s fine to not do it, it’s just one email.”

“No one will even know.”

“You deserve to have a break.”

In other words, I have ZERO motivation to follow my commitment to my business and to myself.

And yet, here I am doing the thing.

Because while I LOVE motivation (big big fan), sometimes it’s not there.

Sometimes I what I feel is: resistance, boredom, frustration, tiredness, and other fun friends.

And that's not a problem.

Because while I may not have motivation,

what I do have is commitment, discipline and determination.

Notice that these feelings kind of don’t feel that great.

But they allow me to experience what’s truth for me in the moment...

...and do what I planned anyways.

So I know I will ultimately create any goals I set because,

No matter what negative emotional experiences will inevitably comes up,

I'm willing and know how to make space for it.

I know don’t always need to feel good to do things.

Because I know how to honour what’s really true for me:

In this moment, not Netflix and cake like my brain wants me to go after,

but my appointment with myself to write this email,

And,

My word to myself.

I’m choosing me because I’m worth it.

And so are you.

Hope you're having the best first week of the year.

PS: If there are things you want to do that you are not doing, two pieces of good news:

1) There is nothing wrong you with: you have a normally functioning human brain that wants to seek pleasure, avoid pain and conserve energy.

2) It's totally possible to override those patterns and intentionally choose how you want to show up instead, and I can show you how in 60 min. Are you in?
