A Strong Reason
Hello World,
I’ve been feeling a lot of anxiety and overwhelm lately.
I’ve been growing my business and putting myself out there a lot.
Which means that my brain has been freaking out basically non-stop.
“Why are you putting us through danger, Alana, don’t you know we could DIE? Let’s stay safe in the cave instead,” It says as it tries to coax me into watching another Netflix episode instead of writing a blog post.
We all know that doing things outside our comfort zone is what makes us grow but… GROWING IS HARD.
Feeling fear of failure, and stress about not having enough time, and anxiety about what people think, and confusion about what to do next. Those feelings: not fave, if I’m honest.
Which is why having a strong reason for doing what you’re doing is so important.
If my reason to grow was so I could feel happy, you can see how as soon as I feel any kind of negative emotion, I would want to quit immediately. If in order to achieve happy I needed to feel ongoing stress, I might be more likely to quit what I was doing so that I wouldn’t have to feel the stress.
So my reason needs to be compelling enough to anchor me to my goal, even while the nausea of anxiety, the buzzing of stress and the discomfort of fear make me want to make a pillow fort, bring in snacks and Netflix and never leave.
A strong reason, is a strong reason to YOU.
For me, it’s knowing that I can create something amazing from my life, that I can contribute, that I can truly help people who feel stuck and unable to fully enjoy their lives. When I feel all the feelings, I remember why it is that I am doing this, why it’s worth it to me to feel this, and that it is a small price to pay for achieving my dreams.
If you haven’t been able to take action towards your dream, it might be because your reason isn’t compelling enough. Take a second to think about what that reason is, and if it’s not compelling enough, spend some time digging around until you find it.
It’s normal that your brain is freaking out and creating thoughts and emotions to prevent you from moving forward, it is trying to protect you. Learning how to make space for this part of your brain, while developing a mindset that can help you is a key component of achieving your goals. If you want to learn how to dissolve the mindset that isn’t serving you and build one that does, you know who to call :)
