Deciding what you want to do in each moment

How was your morning?

Hopefully it was lovely and you jumped out of bed with tons energy, while cartoon birds flew your Disney gown (or tux) to you, and singing mice prepared your breakfast.

Or maybe it was like many of mine:

Where you stay in bed a little longer than you wanted (rest is important, after all),

Decide to skip your morning routine (it’s not that important anyways, who cares),

Put off the things you planned to do that morning (but I’ll totally get to them later, Alana, promise!)

Kind of start and stop a few things, kind of check your phone, kind of do some tidying, (I’m just waiting for motivation, THEN I’ll for sure start getting things done!!)

Until at some point the apathy turns into panic/worry/defeat and the self-flagellation begins:

Ugh, now I’m behind on all the things. What’s wrong with you, Alana?

Why didn’t you just start when you wanted to?

Why are you so lazy?

Why can’t you just get it together - you’re in your THIRTIES, ffs.

Which, you will be unsurprised to hear, didn’t help with the motivation.

And because I hadn’t gotten what I wanted done up until that point,

I decided the whole day was “ruined” and I would just start “fresh” tomorrow.

Sometimes I would decide that when it was NOON.

I’ve done a lot of work on my brain, and it still presents all those thoughts to me,

But then I’ll remind myself:

The goal isn’t to get to That Disney Place (although some days that does happen and it’s freaking amazing! Definitely enjoy those bad boys!).

The goal is just to catch yourself whenever you can,

And decide in that moment what you want to do.

So what if you spent the day scrolling on Instagram?

You’re still alive,

There’s still time,

Last time I checked, you were still awesome.

Who cares that you didn’t meet your expectations in previous moments,

What do you want to do NOW?

You’re always in control in each new moment.

Don’t give up on yourself now just because of what you did before.

Have an amazing day,

Alana
