How To Get What You Want

Hello World,

What is it you want?

Is it a nice house? Or a beautiful body? Or a big bag of gold? Or a better job?

Why do you want those things?

If you dig down deep enough, what you will find is that you want those things because of how you think they will make you feel.

House —> safety?

Beautiful body —> self-acceptance?

Bag of gold —> abundance?

Better job —> success?

We think the things we get will create how we feel.

The truth is external things never create our feelings, only our thoughts create our feelings.

One person could look at 1000$ in their bank account and think, “sweet! That’s so much!”, and feel abundance, another might think “That’s not even enough to cover my rent” and feel scarcity. The amount is the same in both cases.

We think the things we have will create how we feel.

The truth is we need to feel that feeling FIRST, and THEN we can create the thing.

Think about it. If currently you feel like you are not happy in your job but that another job would make you happy, you may feel experiencing feeling

  • Stuck

  • Defeated

  • Apathetic

When you think about the things you need to do to find a new job, those emotions are not great fuel to do them.

It’s like if you were running a marathon (looking for a new job) and feeding yourself celery sticks (the feeling of “stuck”). It makes sense you wouldn’t be able to perform at your best.

And then on top of that, we often we beat ourselves up for not doing better, even though we are only feeding ourselves celery — “Stupid lazy body! Why aren’t you running faster, we should be at the finish line already! Everyone else is way over there and we are all the way over here. Stop crying and eat another celery stick!”

So how you can fuel yourself well?

Start feeling the feelings you want to feel NOW.

If you want to feel success, how can you find evidence of the success you ALREADY have? How about the fact that you live on your own, or have a job at all, or graduated high school, or know how to make a kickass vinaigrette?

What kind of fuel do you think you need to create your goal?

If you feel stuck and want help understanding why you feel this way and what you can do to move forward, I can help.
